These instructions are intended for users of Intel Wireless cards. If you are using Intel PROSet Wireless Software Version 10.5, be aware that Intel has acknowledged a problem with the version 10.5.0.0 driver. This issue has been fixed for version 10.5.0.1, which can be downloaded for the affected network connectors. The Intel PROSet/Wireless configuration tool must be installed. If it is not installed, please download and install the software from Intel.
First, ensure that the Intel tool is managing the wireless card by right clicking the tray icon and choosing “Use Intel PROSet/Wireless to manage Wi-Fi” if it is available.
Download the following instructions with images (pdf).

- Start -> Programs-> Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless
- Click the “Profiles..” button
- Click the “Add” button

- Enter Profile Name: EECS-WPA
- Enter the Wireless Network Name (SSID): EECS-WPA
- Select Network (Infrastructure) as the operating mode
- Click the “Next>>” button

- Select Enterprise Security
- Select Network Authentication: WPA - Enterprise
- Select Data Encryption: AES
- Check Enable 802.1x
- Select Authentication Type: PEAP
- Select Authentication Protocol: MS-CHAP-V2
- (If you have not done so already, you will need to
register to receive a username and password to access the wireless network.)
Select User Credentials: Use the following
- User Name: <enter your WPA username>
- Domain:
- Password: <enter your WPA password>
- Confirm Password: <enter your WPA password>
- Enter Roaming Identity: <enter your WPA username>
- Click the “Next>>” button

- Select Enterprise Security
- Select Network Authentication: WPA - Enterprise
- Select Data Encryption: AES
- Enable 802.1x
- Authentication Type: PEAP
- Check - “Validate Server Certificate”
- Select: “Thawte Premium Server CA”
- Check - “Specify Server or Certificate Name”
- Select Server or Certificate Name: wireless.cs.umn.edu
- Select “Domain name must end with the specified entry”
- Click the “OK” button
- Click on EECS-WPA Profile
- Click Close
- Click connect
- Click Close
- Wait, it could take as long as 40 seconds to get the connection established the first time.
